Those who love history will be pleased to discover the delights of a fortified village. Situated on the left bank of the river, Verdun-sur-Garonne is a pleasant town of Celtic origin, as its name indicates; it comes from 'Verdunum', meaning 'fortress' or 'fortified high place'

The countryside is dotted with about 160'pigeonniers'; they stand both as a symbol of the land to which we belong, and as witnesses to the history of the countryside.

Our heritage is there to be discovered all the year round, thanks to a programmes of guided tours brimming with facts and dates (the Clock Tower, St Michael's church, the Pont of Miègeville, the half-timbered houses...)

You can also visit the site of one of the most famous and, in its day, the most prosperous, of all the abbeys in Southern France -Grandselve, founded in 1114.
